The Mail Property dialogue appears when a New Mail, Reply or Forward is created. It will normally be completed before moving to the Mail Edit window in which the body of the mail is composed. The dialogue can also be opened from the Mail Edit and Sent Mail windows (Menu: FILE > PROPERTY Keyboard: CTRL+I).

The Mail Property Dialogue

Once the required fields are complete, or edited as required, click "OK" to open, or return, to the Mail Edit window. (When accessed from the Sent Mail window all fields are locked from editing.) A description of all the fields and buttons on the dialogue are given below.

Account:
By default this field shows the account of the active Mailbox. If the active Mailbox is a Savebox it shows the default account. If a message is to be generated from an another account, select the desired account from the drop-down list.
NOTE: The default account to be used for any Savebox can be set by editing the nPOPuk.ini file.
ReplyTo:
This option allows you to determine where replies should be sent. You may type an address into this box or select one from the drop down list.

The drop down list is populated with:

  • Omit: The default entry. The message is sent without the special ReplyTo: header line. Replies to this message will be returned to the address from which the mail is sent.
  • The nPOPuk.ini "Replyto=" addresses: Any addresses entered in the appropriate lines in the nPOPuk.ini file.
  • Account Addresses: Each of the addresses from the accounts set up in nPOPuk. Duplicates are removed, keeping the list short if filters are used extensively.
To:
Enter one or more mail address. Multiple addresses should be separated with commas. There are a number of features, explained below, that facilitate entering addresses.

To enter a single address there is an auto-complete feature. Typing the first few letters of an e-mail address, or comment, followed by a space will jump to a matching address book entry. Press the space bar again to find further matches. Repeatedly hitting the space bar will cycle through all matching entries. Hitting backspace will undo the "auto-complete", restoring the
characters that you had actually typed.
NOTE: This address book search is case insensitive.

To enter multiple addresses that all belong to the same address book group, enter, correctly capitalised, the name of a group followed by a space. All addresses in the group will be entered in the To: field.
NOTE: This address book search is case sensitive.

To select one or more address from the Address Book, click the "To:" button to the left of the field. This opens the Address Book window. Holding down the CTRL or SHIFT key will enable multiple addresses to be selected. (CTRL permits an additional address to be selected. SHIFT allows a block of addresses to be selected.
NOTE: When accessed from the Property Dialogue the MAIL button remains inactive.  When the "OK" button on the Address Book is clicked, selected addresses are transferred to the To: line of the Property dialogue. Any other management of the address list that you undertook while the window was open will also be confirmed.
Subject:
Enter a note on the contents of the message. The subject of the original message will be the default for replies and forwards, prefixed with the string defined in the nPOPuk.ini file (Defaults: "Re: " and "Fwd: ").
Recipients
The Recipients button opens a dialogue and is covered separately.
NOTE: An asterisk (*) following the legend on the button indicates that data is held in the associated dialogue.
Attach
The Attach button opens a dialogue and is covered separately.
NOTE: An asterisk (*) following the legend on the button indicates that data is held in the associated dialogue.
Priority
Drop down the list to select from High, Normal or Low. These options place special markers in the recipient's e-mail program and may be treated differently by the servers through which the mail is passed to its destination.
Read Receipt/Delivery Receipt
Select either or both these boxes to request confirmation from the recipient addressee or server. Many servers and mail programs ignore or strip these request markers from mail.
Attach message
This checkbox only appears on the Property dialogue when a forward is being created. Its default setting is controlled by the Global Options dialogue.
Add new recipients to address book
This checkbox only appears on the Property dialogue when a Reply or Reply to All is being created. It is clear by default but this can be changed by editing the nPOPuk.ini file.
If checked and any of the recipients addesses (the address itself, ignoring any other text/punctuation etc.) is not in the address book then the address(es) will be added to the address book. The full address, including and additional text/punctuation, is placed in the address field. The Comment field is populated with any text that prefixes the address (stripped of punctuation characters) and the entry is assigned to a "Replied-to" group.
Quote text
This checkbox appears on the Property dialogue when a reply or forward is being created. Its default setting is controlled by the Global Options dialogue.
NOTE: It is possible to select both this and the "Attach message" option when forwarding a message.  This is intended to allow users to quote part of a forwarded message in the covering message, while allowing the full body and all attachments to be sent at the same time.
