Introduction

This page links to every page on the site. (There's one exception, the "Thank you" page that you see on completion of the form on the Contact Us page!) It should help you find the information that you know you've seen but can't find when using the menu system. If you still can't find it, go to the Forum and ask!

The HOME Section

This group of pages provide general housekeeping information about the site, plus the "Awards" page, because we thought you ought to know who thinks a lot of the program as soon as you hit the home page!

The Home Page: A brief introduction to nPOPuk and who and why the site was created. There are links to the original author's site and the page which credits those who have contributed to the UK versions of the program.
Site News: A list of significant changes made to the site. Regular visitors should probably add this page to their Favorites/Bookmarks.

Awards for nPOPuk: A list of the awards that nPOPuk and its predecessors have received from magazines and software review sites.

The FEATURES Section

The section that newcomers should turn to to get an overview of the features that nPOPuk offers.

Program Features: A page listing the principal features of Tomoaki's original code for nPOP v1.0.9 and the enhancements in nPOPuk.
Development History: Provides an outline of the history of the UK versions of nPOPuk, crediting the programmers and others involved in the versions leading to that documented on the current site.
Why Use nPOPuk: A page that explains the benefits of nPOPuk for those who require portability in their e-mail program, the ability to clear unwanted mail, including spam, checking the server for mail or resisting viruses.
Missing Features: A page listing some of the most common complaints about nPOPuk and what you can do about them. Almost all have a "work-around".
Forthcoming Features: A list of requested features that the UK team of programmers are aiming to incorporate in the next release, and behaviour (You wouldn't be so cruel as to call them "bugs" would you?) that it is hoped to remove. If you have ideas for program enhancements, post them on our Forum.

The SET UP Section

The section that describes how to install and set up nPOPuk for initial use.

Setting Up nPOPuk: Outline of the procedure, once you have downloaded your copy of nPOPuk, for installation and getting your first mail account up and running.
Installation: What to do with the ZIP file that you have downloaded. A step by step guide to installing and the basic configuration of nPOPuk for use with your first account.
Mailboxes: Mailboxes are of two types, Accounts and Saveboxes. This page explains the two types and the settings that can be edited for each type - including their name, an account's servers (POP3 and SMTP) and connection method, signatures to appear on outgoing mail and filters to control which mail is retrieved and whether and how it should be marked.
Account Templates: Template files populate the Account Settings dialogues the the appropriate contents and settings for a particular mail server provider. The page explains the structure of template files, how they may be built and where you can obtain files that you can use as templates.
Global Options: The Global Options dialogue defines settings for how mail should be handled. Settings include those for receiving and sending mail, how replies handle text from the original mail, options controlling the actions taken on checking for the presence of mail, including visual and audible warnings, automating the check, whether to make a check for mail after a server update, etc.

Placeholders: Accessed only from the Global Options and nPOPuk.ini File pages, this page describes placeholders that may be used for the principal header fields of the original message in Replies and Forwarded mail. Tokens may also be used to force a tab or new line.

The nPOPuk.ini File: Most settings in the nPOPuk.ini file are controlled dynamically by nPOPuk itself or from the two dialogues referred to above. However, there are a range of INI file settings, which can only be edited manually. This page lists all these settings and gives guidance on their use.
Commented nPOPuk.ini File: Accessed only from the nPOPuk.ini page, this is a plain text file taken from a freshly installed copy on nPOPuk and embellished with comments explaining almost all of the user-adjustable settings.
Command Line Options: If your first action after launching nPOPuk is normally to write a new message, then you may find it worthwhile to set up a range of desktop shortcuts that will automatically complete much of the message detail. Command line options enable you to do this.

The BASIC USAGE Section

The section that describes how to use the program as a straight forward e-mail client, once installation has been completed.

Basic Usage: Overview of using nPOPuk as a full scale mail client and how to customise it.
The Main Window: Full description of the window and its two main features the Mailbox pane and mail list. All the menus and each option are described, as are the mail list icons and status line. It is from this window that you check the server for mail.
Checking the Server: How to check for mail waiting on the POP3 server, how to download the full bodies of those messages and how to abort these processes.
Reading Mail: The Mail View window is used to read mail and this page describes it and its menus in detail.
Writing Mail: The Mail Edit window is used to compose new messages, replies and covering notes on mail to be forwarded. In particular, the page covers the Mail Properties dialogue and the two menus on the window.
Send and Delete Mail: Covers the actions of deleting mail, retrieving mail bodies and sending mail. These require the mail items to be marked on the local list before logging into the server and the action executed.
Keyboard Shortcuts: A list of all the keystrokes that can be used to control the program instead of, or as well as, the menu options and toolbar buttons.

The CONTROLS Section

This group of pages explain the functions of all the principal dialogues that control the general operation of the program after the initial set up phase.

Program Controls: A summary page linking to the pages that document the dialogues and features that provide control over the program.
The Address Book: Covers the use of nPOPuk's address book. There are a one or two standard Windows tricks that not everyone is aware of that work here.
Address Information: The dialogue that lists all the addresses contained in incoming message headers. It can be used to generate new mail, select addresses for replied, or populate the Address Book.

Attaching Files: How to attach files to out-going mail.

Filters: Full details of how to automate the mail processing when checking the server.
Find Message Text: A simple dialogue to find specified text in the body or subject of an individual e-mail or the entire account.

Initialise Account: Controls the options for retrieving mail, most often used when re-reading of the entire Mailbox is required.

Mailbox Summary: Details about what is seen on the Mailbox Summary Dialogue and how to use it to manage Mailboxes.

Property Dialogue: Explains all aspects of the Mail Property dialogue, other than the further dialogues accessed from buttons on this one.
Recipients Dialogue: How to add Carbon Copy and Blind Carbon Copy addresses to out-going mail.

The F.A.Q. Section

Questions which have been asked by the site's visitors and don't, necessarily, fit naturally on other pages are answered here. Sometimes they involve commonly used external programs, sometimes it's a bit of lateral thinking that is required and sometimes a wider knowledge of the Windows environment.

The WINDOWS MOBILE Section

This section is not accessible from the main menu system but only via the various "Tip for Windows Mobile" graphic links found on many pages throughout the site.

Windows Mobile Help: Links to various Windows Mobile help pages.
nPOPuk Details: A collection of assorted guiance notes on topics including: upgrading from old versions, installation, ISP configurations, importing email, usage tips, platform differences, moving an nPOPuk installation, portable use via flash card and Interactions with other software.
nPOPuk Archiving: Several different ideas for archiving mailboxes are described, and then a comparison chart of advantages and disadvantages presented.
