What's Missing
Inevitably, in a product this size, (The Win32 download is well under 500kb) there are some "missing" features and idiosyncrasies. These include:
- No spell checker (Win32 users could try the external programs listed on the F.A.Q. page!)
- Printing must be handled through an external program (Great! You are not limited to a fixed layout and you can edit out all those ink wasting "Our staff are idiots and you've probably received this mail in error" footers which so many companies insist on adding to their mail! See the F.A.Q. page.)
- HTML mail with no plain text part is stripped of its formatting, so may display oddly. However, the URLs behind hyperlinks are displayed and these will operate as links. (Some would say, it's only newbies, who you can educate, and spammers, whose messages you wouldn't want to read anyway, that send such stuff, so the incomplete rendering is no problem! The Reading Mail page provides some guidance for those who want more complete rendering of HTML mail.)
These issues may not be a problem for you if you are plan to use nPOPuk for the reasons outlined on the Why use nPOPuk page.
We used to suggest that you try nPOPQ, a Japanese extension to nPOP, if you insisted on a more conventional four-pane appearance to your e-mail client. However, since the release of nPOPuk v2.11, with its default Mailbox pane, suffering nPOPQ's other idiosyncrasies now seems pointless.
