Keyboard Shortcuts

There are three distinct groups of keyboard shortcuts which can be used in nPOPuk, depending on which of the three program windows are active at the time they are invoked. This page lists them on a window-by-window basis.

Go to TopMain Window

Go to TopWindow Navigation

Tab
Toggle between Mailbox Pane and Message List.
NOTE: When moving to the message list of a newly selected Mailbox the message selected will be either the first unread message or, if all are read, the most recent message.
Home/End
Depending on which pane has the focus, selects the first/last Mailbox or message.
PgUp/PgDown
Depending on which has the focus, scrolls either the Mailbox pane or message list up/down one screen.
UpArrow/DownArrow
Depending on which pane has the focus selects either the previous/next Mailbox or message .
ALT-Uparrow/ALT-Downarrow
Cycles backwards/forwards through Mailboxes.
A~Z
Cycles through the list, selecting the next item, by Mailbox or subject line, starting with that letter.
Esc
When focus is on the Mailbox Pane, switches focus to the Message List.

Go to TopSelecting Multiple Messages

SHIFT+UpArrow/DownArrow
Selects block of messages.
CTRL+UpArrow/DownArrow
Move the focus. (Use in conjunction with CTRL+Space to select a number of messages)
CTRL+Space
Toggles the selection of the message currently under the focus.
CTRL+A
Select all messages.

Go to TopMarking Messages

CTRL+Enter
Toggles Mark for Download (Accounts) or Send (Outbox).
NOTE: In Accounts it will also clear a Delete mark, initially replacing it with a download mark.
CTRL+D
Marks the selected message(s) for Download (Accounts) or Send (Outbox).
Del
Marks the selected message(s) to be deleted (Accounts) or deletes them from the list (Saveboxes and the Outbox).
CTRL+U
Cancel any marks.
CTRL+B
Marks the selected message(s) as Read.
CTRL+SHIFT+B
Marks the selected message(s) as Unread.

Go to TopServer Activities

CTRL+N
Check the selected account for New Messages.
NOTE: When the Outbox is selected the default account is checked.
CTRL+J
Check all Accounts for new messages.
CTRL+E
Update the selected Account.
CTRL+G
Update all Accounts.
CTRL+S
Abort the update process.

Go to TopMessage Management

Enter/Space
Opens the current message in the Mail View window.
SHIFT+Enter
Opens the current message in Notepad.
NOTES: In Mailboxes, this opens the message under the file name "$npop_view.txt". Any changes made to this file are discarded when Notepad is closed. The file is deleted when nPOPuk is closed.
In the Outbox, this opens the message under a randomly generated numeric file name. The file is deleted as Notepad is closed.
Advanced users should examine the EditApp= and ViewApp= entries in the nPOPuk.ini file for ways to customise the effects of this keystroke.
CTRL+W
Write a new message.
CTRL+O
Forward the selected message.
CTRL+R
Reply to the selected message.
CTRL+ALT+R
Reply to all recipients of the selected message.
CTRL+C
Copy the selected message(s) to a Savebox (in Mailboxes) or Create Copy (in the Outbox).
CTRL+M
Move the selected message(s) to a Savebox (If moving from an account the original message is Marked to Delete).
CTRL+F
Opens the Find dialogue.
CTRL+T
Toggles Thread mode.
Del
Delete the selected message(s) from the List (Saveboxes) or Mark to Delete (Accounts).
Esc (When message selected)
Opens Mail menu as a pop-up.

Go to TopMail View Window

Go to TopCurrent Message

Space
Scrolls through current message and skips to next unread message when done.
NOTE: Be aware of the checkbox "Scan all mailboxes for unread mail" on the OTHER tab of the Global Options.
CTRL+B
Mark as read.
CTRL+SHIFT+B
Mark as unread.
Del
Deletes the current message from the list.

NOTE: Where the nPOPuk.ini includes ViewWindowCursor=1 then the following four keystrokes do not just affect the message view but, with the addition of SHIFT, also allow the selection of text.

PgDown/RightArrow
Scroll down through the current message.
PgUp/LeftArrow
Scroll up through the current message.
CTRL+Home
Skip to the top of the current message.
CTRL+End
Skip to the bottom of the current message.

Go to TopMove between Messages

Enter
Skip to the next message.
SHIFT+Enter or Backspace
Skip to the previous message.
CTRL+Enter
Skip to the next unread message.
NOTE: Be aware of the checkbox "Scan all mailboxes for unread mail" on the OTHER tab of the Global Options.

Go to TopOther Actions

CTRL+R
Reply to the current message.
CTRL+ALT+R
Reply to All Recipients of the current message.
CTRL+O
Forwards the current message.
CTRL+I
Open the Address Information Dialogue for the current message.
CTRL+S
Save the current message as a text file.
CTRL+C
Copy the selected text.
CTRL+A
Select all text.
CTRL+F
Open the Find Dialogue.
F3
Find the next match.
Esc
Close the Mail View window.

Go to TopMail Edit Window

Go to TopEditing Messages

CTRL+A
Select all text.
CTRL+R
Reflow the selected text to the defined line length, adding appropriate quotation characters as necessary.
CTRL+X
Cut the selected text.
CTRL+C
Copy the selected text.
CTRL+V
Paste text from the clipboard.
CTRL+SHIFT+V
Paste text from the clipboard as a quotation (i.e. with a preceding quotation character to each line)
CTRL+F
Opens the Find Dialogue.
F3
Find the next match.
CTRL+H
Opens the Replace Dialogue.
CTRL+Z
Undo the last edit.

Go to TopSaving/Sending Messages

CTRL+I
Open the Mail Property Dialogue.
CTRL+SHIFT+G
Finish editing and send the message now.
NOTE: If not currently on line, and the account is set for dial-up connection, this will automatically initiate dial-up.
CTRL+G
Finish editing, save the message to the Outbox and mark it for sending at the next update.
CTRL+S
Finish editing and Save to the Outbox.
NOTE: In effect, this creates a draft message, to be completed later.
